The Maryland Sports Arena is not responsible for any injuries, regardless of how they occur, that a player may receive. Additionally, the Maryland Sports Arena does not assume any responsibility for medical treatment of players or for payment of any medical bills.
Each team is required to complete the tournament roster prior to the start of the tournament. If you have not received your online roster link, please contact us via email info@marylandsportsarena.com The roster form saves automatically online and should not be erased. In case of protests, the online roster will be reviewed. If there is no form online, the team will automatically lose. Each player’s parent must also sign a liability waiver. This can be accomplished by 1. Either printing the completed online roster and having parents sign or 2 completing a separate individual liability form http://marylandsportsarena.com/waiver.pdf Either or, not both please! Individual waiver forms will also be available at the concession stand.
Teams currently playing at the Maryland Sports Arena may use their league online roster. If additional players are added for the tournament, an individual player liability waiver must be submitted to the concession stand for each added player before the game and player’s name must be added to online roster. Players are not permitted to play on more than one team in the same age group tournament. Age groups are determined based on the 2025/26 US Soccer Age Chart, which is available here http://marylandsportsarena.com/agecutoff.htm . Please ensure your team is registered in the correct age group. Teams in the U12 age group and younger play with seven players and use a size 4 ball. Teams in the U13 age group and older play with six players and use a size 5 ball. Slide tackling is not allowed in U14 and younger tournaments. Each team may have a maximum of two coaches on the bench. Additional coaches may be permitted with approval from the tournament directors. Players not dressed to play are not allowed on the bench without permission. All youth teams must have an adult coach, such as a parent or someone of similar age, present on the bench during all games. Rosters may include up to 18 players.
All games follow the rules of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL), except those amended by the Maryland Sports Arena. There is no 3 line violation or 6 foul 2 minute penalty. Chewing gum or similar products will result in a two-minute penalty. Spitting on the field also incurs a two-minute penalty. Games are 24 minutes long with no timeouts. The scheduled game time is also the forfeit time. Substitutions are unlimited, with a maximum of 15 seconds allowed for guaranteed substitutions when the ball is out of bounds via the ceiling, side, or rear netting. Guaranteed substitutions are not allowed during the last two minutes of each game. No guaranteed substitutions are allowed for fouls; teams may substitute "on the fly" for fouls. On foul situations, the ball must be played within five seconds. There will be two whistles for out-of-bounds and one whistle for fouls.
Goalkeepers are prohibited from handling balls intentionally played to them by a teammate, except for head balls or balls played above the knee. Punting or drop-kicking by the goalkeeper is not allowed, except in U8, U9, and U10 tournaments. In youth tournaments (U14 and younger, except as noted), goalkeepers can only distribute the ball by throwing when they have possession. For U15 and older, goalkeepers may roll the ball to their feet as well. Opposing players must be at least ten feet away from the ball during dead ball situations, and outstretched legs into this area are considered encroachment, which may result in a two-minute penalty. Teams must be prepared to play immediately upon entering the field, and no coaches’ meetings are permitted on the field after the game. Teams should use other locations inside the facility for meetings and vacate the field promptly after their game. Tournaments may run ahead of schedule; therefore, teams must arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled game time. There is no warmup time on the field.
Players wearing plaster casts are not permitted to play. Acceptable footwear includes flat-soled soccer shoes, tennis shoes, or turf shoes; cleats are not allowed on the playing surface. All players are required to wear shin guards. In the event of a uniform conflict, the home team is responsible for changing uniforms.
Dissent toward officials from players, coaches, or spectators will not be tolerated and may result in expulsion. Taunting results in a two-minute penalty. Teams are responsible for the behavior of their fans. Any player ejected before, during, or after a game will be suspended for two games. All red cards are subject to further review and may result in additional tournament suspension. A red card carries a five-minute un-releasable penalty. Teams, players, or coaches who threaten officials may be banned from the facility. Simultaneous penalties are un-releasable. Referee decisions cannot be protested. Teams expelled from the tournament will not receive refunds. Teams wishing to protest ineligible players must notify the referee before the end of the game and identify the player in question. The referee will record the player’s name and birthday and provide this information to the tournament directors. To protest, the protesting team’s online roster must be complete; otherwise, protests will not be allowed. If a protested player’s team does not have a completed online roster, that team will forfeit. Disparaging remarks toward others are not allowed. Coaches must never instruct players to commit fouls. If a game becomes physical or a player is out of control, it is the coach's responsibility to address the issue. Major infractions in the penalty box result in a penalty kick, which is taken from the first dot outside the box. All other players must stand behind the second dot outside the penalty area when the kick is taken. The ball is live once the kick is taken during the game. Shootouts are not part of tournament play.
For tournaments with 3, 4, 6, or 8 teams, three points are awarded for a win and one point for a tie. In the event of a tie for advancement, the following tiebreakers will be used in order: head-to-head competition, goal differential in head-to-head games, total goal differential (with a maximum of seven goals per game for youth), and fewest goals allowed. If a tie still exists, advancement is determined by a coin flip. For must-win games, a best-of-three alternating penalty kick format is used. If still tied, the contest proceeds to 1v1 penalty kicks until a winner is determined. The maximum goal differential and goals scored for calculation purposes is seven. For tournaments with 5 or 9 teams, seven points are awarded for a win, three points for a tie, one point for each goal scored (maximum of seven for youth), and three points for a shutout.
Unless there is a major snowstorm, the tournament will proceed as scheduled. In case of inclement weather, coaches should check the website for updates; cancellations will be posted online. · No commercially prepared food or drink may be brought into the facility.
· No food or drink is allowed on the playing field. Sports drinks or water may be consumed only on the players’ benches, in plastic bottles.
· Gum, chewing tobacco, and sunflower seeds are not permitted. Spitting on the field is prohibited.
· Overflow parking is available in the gravel lot next to the property. Property owner has agreed to open his fenced gates and allow us to park on his lot for the tournament ONLY! (Do not block bus entrance gates!) Overflow parking is also allowed behind the West Shore Office Building. Do not park in front of the West Shore Office Building (Tattoo shop, barber shop, etc.)—vehicles will be towed.
· No ball playing is permitted off the field. All balls must be held or kept in bags. Do not bounce balls off the field.
· Children must be supervised by their parents at all times.
· Please do not stand in front of the bleachers; remain seated while in the bleacher area. Do not stand on the top level of the bleachers for safety reasons.
· No horns, bells or similar type noise makers.
· No climbing is allowed on any building structures. Do not bang on the glass dasher boards.
· No smoking is permitted within the facility. Foul or abusive language is not tolerated. Anyone fighting on the premises may be banned.
